How I spent my weekend…

Good Morning!

This past weekend, Nicole and I headed off in different directions.  While Nicole went to Dallas, TX, for a girls’ weekend, I headed towards Baton Rouge, LA, to go to my best friend’s sister’s wedding.  I was really looking foward to the wedding because it was going to be the first time I’ve ever been to a traditional Indian wedding…and it did not disappoint!  The decorations and clothing were all stunning.  It was amazing to be able to see another culture’s traditions in action.  Lucky for me, one of my other best friends, Dennis, and his lovely girlfriend, Anna, attended the wedding, too. Their presence was insanely beneficial to me because Anna has served as the wedding planner for several Indian weddings.  So she knew everthing that was going on and was able to tell Dennis and I about the traditions we were seeing!

Now, when I go to a wedding as a guest, I don’t always carry my camera.  But, since Pritesh wanted to get a good group photo, I brought along my trusty 5D MkII!  And I couldn’t resist grabbing a few detail pictures!

The details were so colorful!  I really liked all of the detailed fabrics incorporated into the wedding decor! Here’s a picture of Pritesh!

And here’s a quick snap of Dennis and Anna!

Here’s a group shot!

Here’s one of Pritesh and his mother…who both rocked it out on the dance floor!

I was pretty happy that the videoographers had a pretty serious lighting equipment setup!  It came in handy for the next two pictures!

Well, that’s it for today!  On Thursday, we are going to be sharing a full blog from the wedding we second shot with the McGowans!  It was an awesome location and an incredibly beautiful wedding, so make sure to stop by again on Thursday!  (And, if you haven’t already, head over to the McGowan Images blog to see their part 1 and part 2 of the wedding!)

Leap Day – J * – The Fix

Febuary 29th comes along only once every four years, so it’s fun to make the most of Leap Day. While thousands of people filled Disneyworld and Disneyland for 24 hours of magic (which we would have loved to do), about 200 photographers filled “The Apartment” in Dallas, Texas, to listen to one of the industry’s most famous wedding photographers, Jasmine Star.

There’s no doubt in my mind that we put Leap Day to great use! Jasmine Star is an amazing photographer based in Los Angeles who travels all over the United States (and even the world) to photograph weddings and give presentations on the business of photography. In a strange coincidence, Jasmine also went to law school (for those who may not know, Nicole and I are both lawyers), but she gave up her legal pursuit to follow her true passion…photography. If giving up law school and following your passion isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is!

The best thing about Jasmine Star is not her talent as a photographer (and she’s talented!). It’s her willingness to just be herself that makes her not just inspiring but also amazing. Jasmine is as honest as she can be about herself, where she came from, and where she hopes to go. Jasmine shares the good and the bad. And it’s that ability to share the difficult stories that inspires us to push on and fight through the stuggles that we face. Jasmine teaches a great lesson…be yourself and no one else. You can’t reach your full potential trying to be someone else.

So, inspired by Jasmine, we are going to try to be as honest and open as we can so that you get to know us. We know that there’s always going to be someone better than us and someone not as good as us at all things we do. But, like Jasmine said, noone can be a better “us” than us. While some people may love us, some people may not and that’s ok. We are who we are. We love Disney, Diet Coke, dinosaurs, and Hugh Jackman. (Seriously, how cool is Hugh Jackman?) I obsess over my hair being perfect, and Nicole can’t stand to be late to anything. I wear terrible belt buckles (that Nicole hates), and Nicole loves most things about the 80s. We hope you like us and want to get to know us better. Keep checking the blog to not only see beautiful images of our awesome clients but also to get to know us better. If you’re a photographer in the area, give us a call or shoot us an email. We’d love to meet up and get to know you, too!

And, since this is a photography blog, here are a few images from The Fix last night!

Luckily for us, our awesome friends, the McGowans, went to the presentation as well. They captured this image of Nicole, me, and Jasmine. This picture totally makes me feel like a giant!

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to head over to www.mcgowanimages.com/blog today to see part 1 of the wedding Nicole and I second shot with McG! There are some killer images over there that can’t be missed!

Etsy Finds

I’m back posting another round of Etsy Finds! (Remember, you can click the seller’s name to go to their Etsy store or click on the item to go directly to it!)  I LOVE scouring Etsy looking for interesting items. Here are a few things I found this month…

1. Check out these fun envelopes by Rock Melon!  Can you imagine receiving an invitation or a letter in one of these?!  I know I’d have a HUGE grin on my face!

2.  This next item is created by Book Craft.  It’s great for book lovers who are getting married!  It’s a flower bouquet and boutonniere made from pages of a book!  It’s not traditional, but that’s what I like about it!  And how cool would it be if you had one made from pages of your favorite book?  It would certainly add a personal touch to a wedding!

3. To throw in something for men, check out these cufflinks made from hazel wood!  They’re handmade by Stair Lodge Supplies!  I love getting Kevin unique cufflinks, so he’ll probably get a pair of these very soon!

4. Looking for a wedding invitation? I love several of Beacon Lane’s options! Check out this one in particular…

That’s it for today! Thanks for stopping by!

Snow White and the Huntsman – A Berg Photography Fairytale

We are incredibly excited to share today’s images with you! You see, Kevin and I have been working on a themed photography session for the last several months. We knew we wanted it to be something fun but, most importantly, we wanted it to be “us.” We put a lot of time and effort into this shoot, so we decided from the start that we wouldn’t limit ourselves on how many images we blogged. So you guys are getting a super long blog post today! But, before you can enjoy the images, you need a little backstory…

Because Kevin and I have been inspired by a television show called Once Upon a Time and because we love all things Disney, we decided to shoot a Snow White inspired wedding. I did a little research into the original Snow White fairytale and found out that the Huntsman didn’t kill Snow White (as he was ordered to do by the Evil Queen for those rare people who may not know the story) because he fell in love with her. Well, I like a good underdog…and that’s what the Huntsman was. After all, he wasn’t a prince.  And he didn’t get the girl in the fairytale. So, with my new bias in favor of the Huntsman, here’s where our session went…

What if, after disobeying the Evil Queen’s orders and sending Snow White into the woods to hide, the Huntsman kept an eye on his love from afar to make sure she wasn’t harmed by the Evil Queen? What if he was able to intercept the whole apple exchange that led to Prince Charming finding Snow White? What if…

My guess is that, after being saved from the Evil Queen’s plot for the second time, Snow White fell in love with the Huntsman.  I mean, who doesn’t love a hero?  And, typically after people fall in love, they get married. Here’s what we think their wedding would look like…

The pear in the images below was inspired by Once Upon a Time.  Snow White probably does prefer pears after the apple scare…

This next shot is from Kevin’s view…

And the next two are from mine…(Yes, they’re very similar but we couldn’t decide which we preferred!  So both got blogged!)

We want to send out a special thanks to Brannan and Kandace Jorns for braving the cold to model for this shoot!  And we want to thank the McGowans for inspiring us to do a shoot like this in the first place!  To our readers, we hope you enjoyed looking at our images as much as we enjoyed sharing them!  We hope to do more shoots like this in the future because we learned A TON and we had a blast!
